Another update, though it hasn’t been consulted with from other members helping out here I am deciding to make the script much longer and much less simple. It’s going to be a more puzzle-filled horror game, rather than a simple run through. Though I will keep the original script/actions there to look back upon as a basic outline and for other people to look at to see the origins of what the game was supposed to be.. but simple just isn’t me, I want an intricate, mind-blowing horror game. I’m of course very inspired by the Yume Nikki game(s) at the moment, but I’ve also been watching things like Ib, Story of the Blanks, Heavy Rain and much more.

Ok, I know it’s been a while but the game hasn’t really been started yet. School and all have gotten in the way, despite us wanting to get this started at least in the summer. At least we have the game script and character designs down, yeah?

But anyways, once I get a new tablet pen and stuff we (Tiona and I) will be continuing this project and hopefully getting it more recognition.

Thanks for being patient, anyone who still pays attention to this!

gives info about controls and then click spacebar to exit from the popup

Red: I wonder why my mom isn’t back yet.. I should ask around!

player is able to take control of Red

separate chats for every wolf she speaks with

[Red: Elder, why hasn’t my mother returned from the forest yet?

Elder: Red, do not worry, she will be back in time. Just be patient.

Red: But—

Elder: Listen Red, it’s not safe, there is a monster within the forest that we all fear and hide from. This is the only place where we have no need to worry. Do not venture out of our land, I forbid you.

Red: Whatever, those stories are all lies.]

[Red: Is my mother gonna be home soon?

Babysitters: Yes, don’t worry.

Red: Are you sure?

Babysitters: Yes, of course. Please stop asking questions!]

[Red: Have you seen my mother?

All other wolves: Sorry, no.

Red: Ok, thanks anyways..]

after this it will trigger Theo leaving the cave and just hanging around. Red will notice and think “I wonder if Theo wants to go look for my mom with me!”

Player can move Red, only option really is to go to Theo.

[Red: Hey, Theo, let’s sneak into the forest!

Theo: U-uh, Red, I don’t think that’s a very good idea!

Red: Oh hush, we’ve been in there hundreds of times with our parents and we’ve been fine!

Theo: Yeah, that’s with our parents..!

Red: Oh stop being such a scaredycat! We’re just going to go in, find my mom, and come right on back!

Theo: Well, I guess that’s ok…

Red: Yay!]

Player controls Red, Theo just follows behind her. Try to leave from the main entrance but get stopped.

[Someone: Hey! You’re not allowed out there!

Red: Darn..

Theo: Psst, Red, there’s a secret opening behind the cave. We can go through there!

Red: Good plan Theo!]

Player controls Red, Theo continues to follow, and they leave through the “secret” passageway behind the cave.

As they enter the forest, it seems like a normal heavy foresty area but upon entering, a few steps in, an owl is sitting in the middle of the pass, head completely upside down in an unsettling manner.

[Owl: Hooo.

Red: …What?

Owl: HOO!

Red: …

Owl: Fear what you would least expect. Two young lovers will become one when the second steps away.

Red: What!?

Owl: HOO HOOO HOOOOOOOOO!]

The owl flies away, and Red stands there dumbfounded.

She turns to talk to Theo but he’s gone!

And just as she realizes he’s gone, she hears a screech.

The player controls Red and makes her go forwards until Theo’s mutilated body, hanging from a tree, comes into view.

Red panics, and turns to run but the owl is back, just sitting there blocking her path.

[Red: What did you do to him!?

Owl: Not I, not wHOOOOOOOO, but, WHAT!

Red: Please stop with these riddles, I was just trying to find my mom!

Owl: Walking the land she may go, but is it really the mother you know?]

Before Red can respond, the owl flies off.

[Red: …I guess I.. better keep looking.]

Player controls Red, brings her forth.

[???: Red…]

Red looks around, confused.

[Red:?]

[???: Red, help me…!]

Straight ahead, in a shady part between the trees, stands her mother, faintly visible because of the shadows.

[Mom: Red… RED…. RED!]

Red tries to go forth, but her mother disappears into the dark before she can even take 2 steps.

[Red: …mom… ]

Player continues forwards as Red, and every passing scene the forest becomes darker, and scarier. Some trees looking more sinister, dead, creepy stuff.

While walking, occasionally a [Mom: Red..] will appear and scare Red, but the player must continue forwards as her.

Eventually Red reaches a forked “road” area in the forest. The owl is sitting in the middle of one trail, so Red says to herself,

[Red: Better take the other trail… that owl is bad luck.]

Upon going through the other trail, Red comes across a torn up scarf that is splattered with blood.

Her mother’s scarf.

[Red: Mom… Oh I know that owl knows something about where my mom is!]

Red returns, and the owl is gone, but her mother is standing in the path.

[Red: Mom!]

Her mother quickly runs away and out of the screen, Red goes after her but upon reaching the next screen area her mother is long gone, but there is a creepy, ominous opening in the forest that is covered in heavy vegitation and foliage.

Upon entering through this, the player cannot go back.

Red walks for a little bit, when the owl flies down and stops her.

[Owl: Be wary of those who pretend to be someone else..

Red: What do you mean!?

Owl: Hoooo hoooo hoooooooooooooooooooo…]

The owl flies away once again, and Red feels as if maybe he’s trying to ward her off.

After more walking and taking in the atmosphere, there is another opening with similar heavy vegitation as the other but it seems as though it is brighter beyond that point.

Red hightails it in there, and upon entry, there is a small broken looking shack being held by small wooden legs above a marshy, swampy area.

The owl is sitting on top of the house, but does not interact with Red.

[Red: This.. doesn’t look good at all. ]

The player has the opportunity to explore around the shack, but there are only two entrances. One is a locked cellar door, and the other is a room lacking a door. That is where the player needs to go after exploring the place a bit.

Upon entering the room, it’s completely empty aside from a large stuffed owl sitting in the middle of the room, holding a key with its beak. The stuffed owl looks strikingly similar to the riddle owl, which Red notes while taking the key.

[Red: Thank you mr. owl, for trying to protect me but I need to find my mom!]

Player leaves the room, unlocks the cellar door and of course goes downstairs.

There is a trail of blood leading through the long hallway.

While Red follows it, she continues to hear ominous calls from her mother.

[Mom: Red… help me.. it hurts so much Red..]

[Mom: Save me, Red! Help!]

[Mom: Red please come find me! ]

The blood smears on the ground lead to a dark room, which the player must enter.

[Red: Mom?

Mom: Over here, Red…]

Red walks over to her mom, who is hunched over in the corner of the room.

Her mother gets up, but when she turns.. it’s a man wearing her skins.

[Man: Heehehe..hahaha..HAHAHA!]

Red runs, this is out of control of the player, but after she gets out of the house the player has control, and must run back to the packgrounds.

Eventually, the player will reach where Theo was hanging, but his body will be gone. The blood still there, but his body nowhere to be found.

[???: Red…]

Red looks around, a bunch of people wearing the skins of Theo and everyone in the wolf pack begin to walk out from the forest, the man wearing her mother’s skin enters the scene slowly.

[Man: Oh Red, please help me!]

They all close in on Red, and she screeches as the screen fades to black.

after a few moments of darkness and silence, the scene fades back to light, where a blurry picture of someone resembling Red’s mom is seen…

[Mom: Welcome home, Red.]

Red gets up, and looks around, everyone is alive, well, and the atmosphere is oddly happy, the sky completley white and everything obnoxiously shiny.

She’s dead.

[Red: ….Home?]

Ending screen!

[ACTIONS SCRIPT HERE ]

Red wonders why her mother isn’t back

Talks to babysitter, they say her mother will be back from the forest soon

Red goes around and talks to others among the wolf pack

Talk to the elder, elder tells her about the horrid monster that they fear in the forest and that she musn’t venture into the forest

Red disregards this as myth and folklore, talks to Theo about what the others said

They both sneak into the forest

Come across weird riddle owl, he tells them a riddle that fucks so bad with their minds. HE FLIES AWAY LIKE A BOSS.

Red wonders for a while what that was about, then turns to talk to Theo but he is gone!

Hears a scary scream sound owowwwaaah

Goes looking for Theo, finds his mutilated body hanging from a tree.

Freaks out, turns back to run but owl is sitting there. He tells another riddle.

Scared, Red ventures forward. The owl told her a riddle that involved her mother.. which obviously means her mother is still alive and out there.

“red”

Red looks around

“red help”

Red looks straight forwards, which is a dark spot in the forested area. There is a faint view of her mother.

Her mother continues to moan “red” before disappearing

Red runs after her mother, but after getting to the next area there is no sight of her mom.

the forst is creepier now, the trees are beginning to look sad. dead. EVIL.

when continuing to walk there are the occasional “red” and “red help me”s

fork in the forest, right side is blocked by the owl. which shouldnt be a problem but he’s creepy.

goes the other way, and finds her mother’s bloody scarf

freaks out, goes the other way and because upon returning the owl is gone

red sees her mom walk across the path. chases her, but can’t find her.

comes across a creepy canopy of trees, reluctantly goes through

when going in, there are trees with horrifying faces everywhere. there is blood splattered upon the ground and the trees appear to be dead and twisted. dead animals could possibly litter the ground.

“red hurry!”

“it hurts red!”

step forward and the owl is there again, tells her a riddle. sounding like he’s attempting to ward her off

brushes it off, because she needs to find her mother!

next scene is a creepily detailed picture of the broken shack. mother is seen in window momentarily before disappearing into the darkness of the shack

the owl is on top of the house

red enters the house

can’t find anything, but continues to adventure around. this is where some puzzles come in.

there’s a cellar door but it’s locked! venture through the house, come across many things like dead animals and their pelts

enter a room that is empty aside from a stuffed owl which looks just like the riddle owl. observe it, and after seeing that it is dead and whatnot realize that it is holding the key to the cellar door in its beak.

take the key, thanks the owl and heads to the cellar door

scary, very ruined and rusty and just old. occasional flicker of lights, and faint calls from Red’s mother. Red is close. there’s half carved animal carcasses everywhere and the place is a disgusting mess. smears of blood lead to the end of the hall

doorway at the end, pitch black it appears. smears of blood lead inside.

“reeeeeeeeed, help me. Red! It hurts! Help me! Save me!”

run into the dark room.

it’s dark, but you can kinda see shit.

sees mom in the corner, hunched over. walk over to her

she gets up slowly and turns… wh.. it’s not Red’s mom… it’s a human wearing her skins..

he laughs and Red runs for her fucking life

when Red runs from the house the owl watches sadly and fades away.

eventually Red reaches where Theo was killed.. his blood is still there, but he is not.

start walking, but stops after someone says “red”

a bunch of people wearing the skins of theo and everyone in the wolf pack begin to walk out from the forest, the man wearing her mother’s skin enters the scene slowly

they begin to get close to Red and eventually Red screeches,. and runs from them. she darts to the pack grounds which is oddly empty and hides in the cave.

screen goes black with words that say “Finally, I’m safe”

fade into faint blurry view of something that looks like Red’s mother.

“Welcome home, Red.”

everything is shiny and beautiful, and everyone in the pack is well and alive. Even theo, whom you had witnessed being killed.

“Home?”

Sorry for there being no recent updates but I assure all of you that we are working on the game still. Things have been going really slow, though, because we’re..well… sidetracked easily!

I have been doing a lot of scripting and the story and characters are still being tweaked a little bit and shortly maybe we can finally do some of the spriting for the game!!

Just letting you know that all sprites being made currently are going to be (most likely) used simply as practice, tests, and concepts on how movement will be. Most movement will be pretty rough seeing as how we’re making a 8-bit sort game but I’d still like it to be fairly smooth. These rough draft sprites- they are FAR from smooth.
